The Bones of Louella Brown

When Governor Bedford arranges to have his relatives' graves moved to a more prestigious resting place, the bones of a black laundress are accidentally confused with the bones of a white countess. In the ensuing furor, the racism of Boston's most venerable citizens is laid as bare as the bones in Ann Petry's pointed comedy of nineteen-twenties Boston.
