The Schoolmaster's Progress

In this humorous tale of mischief on the American frontier, Caroline Kirkland creates a love triangle involving a restless East-coast sophisticate visiting rural relatives, a wholesome country girl, and a stuffy schoolmaster. The hijinks begin with a delightful series of forged letters; as the intrigue escalates, the cultural tensions of city versus country in nineteenth-century America are laid bare, and a city-girl's vanity promises to topple the reputation of a country schoolmaster unless the truth is exposed.
